Lent term conclusions 09

Posted March 10, 2009 in Personal-University

Wow this Lent term at Cambridge has contained the most intense few weeks of my life. Trying to fit sports, hobbies, friends and the “most intense first year course in the UK” into an eight-week term is an almost impossible task that requires impeccable organisation and constant motivation — most universities get 12 weeks! I’m now poorly (man-flu) but pushing through the last days to a few days of rest at the start of Easter.

Rowing with Queens’ M2

Rowing was brilliant this term. Lent Bumps was the biggest sporting event in my life so far. I was in Queens’ M2, the College’s second boat. We bumped three other boats and moved up from the third division well into the second. I loved that week because I finally began to bond with my team. Hopefully this will keep going well into next term.

Handling the workload

Work-wise I am falling behind and feeling very similar to two years ago although I am now tackling a tougher course. The holiday will give me a great opportunity to consolidate and learn everything before the exams.

Life is good generally. I have lots of ideas for the summer and want a chance to implement them. Exploring music theory with a computer is one of my main interests at the moment.

I just spent a few hours upgrading my website to handle internal article links. Soon it will be able to apply dynamic ImageMagick commands to HTML images so I won’t have to resize my journal images by hand. This is pretty clever and I have to blog about it sometime.
